A Property or Land Management Plan (PMP or LMP) is a working plan to aid you with the management of your property.

It is based on:

  • The property's physical resources (e.g. land, vegetation, water);
  • The activities undertaken on the property (e.g. livestock, recreational uses);
  • Your goals and resources.

Having a current LMP may be an advantage when you need to apply to your local council or other agencies for approval to carry out changes on your property.

A well planned and practical LMP has great potential benefits. These benefits include:

  • It is a historical record to assist you to identify the most effective actions and track changes (good & bad) for your property and lifestyle needs;
  • The natural resources on your property are better managed and protected for the future;
  • Property improvements information is collected and set out in manageable stages.

Many landholders find the idea of Property Management Planning difficult. They don’t know where to begin, sometimes keeping it simple is best. There are a number of LMP templates available to help make planning easier.

Some elements to include in a LMP or PMP:

  • Property description
  • Property boundary map
  • Property management and maintenance goals
  • Current condition
  • Existing impacts and risk assessment
  • Budget
  • Action plan (options for action)
