Poison Lake DOIW
The site is a large seasonal lake formed in a closed depression on a Tertiary lateritic surface. The catchment is an internally drained local system. 18 degrees 50' 30" S, 145 degrees 05' 10" E; the site extends c. 5 km in a north-south direction and is c. 3 km wide at its widest, with its centre c. 15 km north northwest of Greenvale.
It is a good example of a wetland formed in a closed depression on a Tertiary lateritic surface in the upper Burdekin catchment. It is the largest example of its type.
